Dhaka, BANGLADESH – Chief Executive Officer for Eminence Associates for Social Development, Dr. Shamim Hayder Talukder and Chairman for the Institute of Microfinance (InM), Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad announced May 8, 2014 that they are organizing an international conference themed around sustainable development goals. Dr. Kholiquzzaman will serve as the conference convener.
The conference will take place in Dhaka, Bangladesh from August 16-19, 2014. The conference, referred to as the Bangladesh Summit on Sustainable Development 2014, is the culmination of the combined efforts, achievements, lessons learned, and collected knowledge from previously organized consultative meetings and conferences. The summit will serve as a platform for civil society members, key government actors, donor partners, academia and national and international researchers to share and justify their views on a post-2015 Sustainable Development agenda and policy framework. The conference aims to develop pathways to attain a sustainable development agenda, particularly for developing countries.
The headline for the summit is "Mission for 100 Years". This headline posits that sustainable development goals and agendas must be forward-thinking and long term. Furthermore, the conference identifies several theme areas of social segments, purporting that sustainable development is a multifaceted achievement requiring action in all aspects of human development and population growth.
Moreover, the conference will serve as a launch pad for the Global Citizens' Forum on Sustainable Development. This forum was conceptualized during the 2nd Global Conference on Community Health 2014. The Global Citizens' Forum on Sustainable Development is an open and inclusive forum for people to engage with and commit to the challenges of building a sustainable future for all.
